Project 2: Construction/ Technical drawings

The objectives of this assignment are as follows:

1. To develop an awareness of the role of technical drawings through the production of full set floor plans, wall sections and detailing of the students’ final design projects

2. To develop an understanding of technical drawing conventions and formats through application

3. To develop an awareness of the general nature, principles and procedures of law and legislation, including the Uniform Building By-laws (UBBL) and local fire regulations

4. To develop an awareness of construction details consistent with design and performance

In tandem with the main project of Architecture Design Project Studio 6, students are to demonstrate knowledge of construction, technology, materials and building services, as well as UBBL and fire safety regulations in developing their architectural design project technically. Students must take into account the functionality of spatial requirement in relation to by-laws and regulations, ergonomics, environmental concerns and other issues to ensure a good, healthy, safe and comfortable living environment for all users.

 

Submission format: Full set A1 drawings, including (but not restricted to):

a. One (1) Building Section cutting though a significant (design) part of the building.

b. One (1) Full Height Wall Section taken from the Studio 6 design building project, with detail call-out.

c. Two (2) Blow-up Details featuring a major joint (wall/floor, roof/wall, etc.), taken from the Full Height Wall Section.

d. Full Feature Staircase Detail Drawings.

Reflection

Upon successful completion of the subject, i am able to:

1. Apply visual communication methods (technical drawing and terminology) to clearly and effectively convey their design ideas and proposals from architectural design project.

2. Apply the practices and procedures of working drawings development.

3. Develop an understanding of the general nature, principles and procedure of law and legislation, particularly Building By-laws; and its relationship to working drawings.

4. Develop and design details for their design project.
